About Danna

I am a second-year Bachelor of Science student in Biological Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand. I achieved a 76% first-year average, with distinctions in 3 out of 4 of my subjects, and was awarded the University Council Merit Scholarship. I also received the highest mark in first-year Biology, reflecting my strong understanding and genuine interest in the subject.

I completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with 38 points, including Level 7 in both English Higher Level and History Higher Level, and Level 6 in Biology Higher Level. These experiences have given me a solid academic foundation across both scientific and humanities subjects, as well as a disciplined approach to learning and studying.

I enjoy science because of how it gradually becomes more meaningful as concepts start to connect with one another, especially in biology where everything builds on earlier understanding. Over time, I have come to really appreciate how rewarding it is when something that once felt complicated suddenly makes sense.

Having been through both high school and the transition into university, I also understand how overwhelming it can feel when the volume of content increases and everything seems too large to manage at once. I know what it is like to sit with work that does not immediately make sense, even when you are trying your best, and how discouraging that can feel.

This is part of why I value sharing what I have learned. I have found that a lot of academic struggle comes not from a lack of ability, but from not yet having the right explanation or enough time for concepts to properly settle. My aim is to help make that process feel a little more manageable and less isolating for students going through it!

I help students improve their marks by making difficult concepts easier to understand and less overwhelming. My approach is based on breaking down topics step by step, identifying exactly where confusion starts, and rebuilding understanding in a way that actually makes sense for the student. The goal is not just to get through the syllabus, but to build real confidence so that students can answer questions independently in tests and exams.

In lessons, we work through the student’s specific challenges first, then reinforce understanding through targeted practice questions and exam-style application. I also show students how to study effectively on their own, how to structure their revision, and how to approach questions in a way that maximizes marks.

Lessons are conducted in English and are adapted to each student’s level, pace, and school curriculum. I make sure students feel comfortable asking questions at any stage, especially when something has not made sense in class.

I work mainly with high school learners (Grade 8-12) and first-year university students in Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, and general academic support. My focus is on helping students move from confusion to clarity, and from effort to measurable improvement in results! :)
