About Doria
Hi! I’m a passionate and dedicated third grade teacher with over 11 years of classroom and tutoring experience. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and tutoring students in grades 2–5 across all core subjects, helping them grow in confidence, skills, and love for learning. I’ve worked in urban school districts, including summer school programs, where I’ve supported a wide range of learners. Including those needing extra reinforcement to students ready for enrichment. My classroom experience includes co-teaching with specialists to serve multilingual learners (MLs) as well as students with IEPs and 504 plans. This background has allowed me to develop strong skills in differentiation, individualized instruction, and lesson adaptation to meet every student’s unique needs and learning style. As both a teacher and tutor, I focus on creating engaging, hands-on, and supportive learning experiences that build confidence and encourage curiosity. I believe every child can succeed when given the right tools and encouragement — and I’m committed to helping each student reach their fullest potential.

A typical lesson begins with a short warm-up or review activity to activate prior knowledge and get students focused. Then I introduce the new concept through a clear, step-by-step explanation or demonstration (often using visuals, real-life examples, or manipulatives). Next, we move into guided practice, where I model strategies and the student practices with my support. Finally, we end with independent practice or a quick assessment to check understanding, followed by feedback and goal setting for next time.
Every lesson is designed to be interactive, engaging, and aligned with learning standards, but flexible enough to adapt to how the student is responding.
What sets me apart is my experience teaching a full range of learners in the classroom — from students who need extra reinforcement to those who crave more challenge. I’m patient, positive, and skilled at breaking down difficult concepts into simple, relatable steps. I also make learning fun by connecting lessons to real-world examples and students’ interests. My goal isn’t just to help students do well on assignments, but to help them build confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
My tutoring lessons are designed for elementary students, primarily in grades 2–5, who need support or enrichment in reading, writing, math, or study skills. I work with students who may need extra practice to strengthen foundational skills, as well as those who want to move ahead and deepen their understanding. I also offer sessions focused on test preparation, homework help, and building strong study habits to support overall academic success.
