About Ana Beatriz
I am a theater director and researcher with about fifteen years of theatrical experience in Brazil, India, Peru, U.S., U.K., and Portugal. I hold a degree in Theater Direction from the São Paulo School of Theatre (Brazil) and a B.A. in Business from the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration at Getulio Vargas Foundation. As a theater practitioner, I have directed several plays and performances, including Camasca: A Theatrical Offering in Peru, Muvuca and Other Songs, Four Moons, and Bright Eyes in Brazil. I have also led workshops such as Yoga for Actors, Body and Mind Theatre Workshop, Between Yoga and Capoeira, The Art of Self-Narration, Theatrical Practices and Political Struggles, Memories of the Valley: Theatre Workshop Based on Local Stories, Acting Workshop: Cultures, Arts, and Theatre, and Children, Nature, and Community Workshop. I have developed artistic collaborations and training with the SP School of Theatre, Center for Theatrical Research (SESC), Grupo Tá na Rua, Actors’ Factory School, and the Center for the Theatre of the Oppressed in Brazil; Firehouse Creative Production in the U.K.; Independent Art Productions in the Global South and Cosmos Theatre in Peru; and with several groups in India, including Lokadharmi Theatre, Jana Sanskriti, Kalakshetra Manipur, and the Indian People’s Theatre Association. I have been a Postdoctoral Fellow in Performing Arts at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), where I taught classes and conducted research on Indian theater practices. I completed a Ph.D. in History at the State University of Rio de Janeiro, including an internship at the School of Arts and Aesthetics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, with a thesis on Indian Political Theatre. I also earned an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Lisbon, with a dissertation on the theater of Heiner Müller and the philosophy of Hannah Arendt. Additionally, I hold a B.A. in History from UNIRIO, where my research focused on theater as a political tool in the Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement and I have professional training in Yoga Instruction from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Teacher Training & Meditation School in India.

The theater classes aim to be a collaborative space for creation, exchange, research, and cultural, artistic, and theatrical experimentation. Throughout the workshop, participants will engage in individual and collective explorations, research on body movements, energetic activations, expressions, spatiality, temporalities, sensory awareness, work with symbolic objects, memories, dramaturgies, among other activities connected to nature, the arts, cultures, and community knowledge. As a certified yoga instructor trained at the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Teacher Training & Meditation School in India, I also bring practices that connect breath, movement, and mindfulness to artistic creation. My approach encourages self-expression, presence, and the cultivation of intuition, supporting both artistic processes and personal well-being. Thus, the workshop seeks to become a collective space for creation, experimentation, exchange, and cultural and theatrical dialogue.
