About Richard
I am a University researcher/lecturer. I have been teaching for 7 years. I have taught Microbiology to second-and third-year Pharmacy undergraduate students (2014 - 2015) and Business Planning to final year (fourth year) Pharmacy students (2016 onwards). Microbiology class sizes ranged from 60 to around 170 students. Business Planning class sizes range from 12 to 24 and group sizes from 3 to 4 students. In 2020 I taught my Business Planning class online. I have also supervised BSc Honours students and co-supervised MSc and Ph.D. students, mainly in the field of wastewater treatment and renewable energy.

For class teaching, I prefer to use formative assessments where I get students to work in groups and submit group assignments. I also set individual assignments so that I can monitor individual student's comprehension of the lesson content. I give students a scaffold (basic principles) for them to use when doing an assignment. Students submit drafts of their assignments to me which I review and provide feedback before they submit their final draft. This is where the learning really begins and where I am able to provide guidance.
