About John
Admittedly, I sometimes push students to move faster than they initially think they can handle because I know how much material the MCAT covers. My instruction for pre-med students and A-level learners emphasizes the connection between foundational enzyme kinetics and systemic physiology.
Since my background is in an MD program, I prioritize the heavy-hitting concepts that appear on high-stakes exams. I break down photosynthesis and respiration alongside the circulatory system and immunology basics to ensure that everything is integrated logically. Providing feedback happens in real time so that we catch gaps before they become major obstacles. It is quite rewarding to help a student move from confusion to mastery while uncovering the elegant efficiency of human metabolism.

Honestly, I sometimes find that biology is taught as a list of definitions rather than a set of logical systems. My degree from the UC San Francisco School of Medicine grounds my teaching in clinical reality. I draw on my experience to explain microbiology, ecology and ecosystems, photosynthesis and respiration, and biological drawing.
For 4 years, I have worked with college freshmen, AP Biology students, and adult learners returning to science. It helps me explain the circulatory system, immunology basics, and enzymes and metabolism with precision. I genuinely enjoy watching the moment a complex system finally clicks for someone.
