About Chris
My decision to move into teaching is a natural extension of my professional background and personal values. Over the past 17 years working as a publicist with SBS Television, I developed advanced skills in writing, communication, and storytelling, working in environments where clarity, accuracy, and audience engagement were essential. This experience has given me a deep understanding of how language works in real-world contexts and how to communicate ideas effectively to diverse audiences.
Teaching allows me to pass on these skills in a meaningful and practical way. I am motivated by the opportunity to help students develop confidence in their own communication, whether that is through improving their writing, strengthening their reading comprehension, or building their spoken English. I find it rewarding to see learners gain clarity and independence in their thinking and expression.
My academic background in English Literature, combined with my Graduate Diploma in TESOL, has equipped me with both the theoretical knowledge and practical teaching strategies to support learners from a wide range of backgrounds. I am particularly interested in helping students connect language learning with real-life application, ensuring that what they learn is useful, relevant, and lasting.
Ultimately, I want to teach because I value the impact that strong communication skills can have on a person’s opportunities and confidence. I am committed to creating a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel encouraged to develop their abilities and achieve their goals.

My focus is on building both confidence and competence in learners. I understand that every student has a unique learning style, pace, and set of goals, so I tailor each session to meet individual needs. Whether the focus is on improving written expression, reading comprehension, essay structure, or spoken English, I aim to create a learning environment that is clear, encouraging, and results-driven.
With my TESOL training, I place strong emphasis on practical language use, ensuring students can apply what they learn in real-life contexts. I break down complex concepts into simple, manageable steps and use a range of strategies such as guided practice, repetition, and constructive feedback to reinforce understanding.
In English Literature, I help students develop critical thinking skills, analyze texts with depth, and express their ideas clearly and effectively. I also support students with assignment preparation, exam techniques, and structured writing, helping them improve both accuracy and confidence.
Above all, I prioritize patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress at their own pace.
