About Jessica
Hi! I’m Jessica, an experienced educator and Learning Specialist who is passionate about helping students feel confident and successful in school. I am experienced as a classroom teacher, Learning Specialist, and 1:1 tutor working with students across elementary, middle, and high school.
My teaching philosophy is simple: every student can learn, but not every student learns in the same way. I take the time to understand each student's individual learning style, strengths, and areas for growth, then tailor my lessons to meet them where they are. I focus not only on academic skills, but also on building confidence, organization, executive functioning, and independence.
I especially enjoy helping students who may feel overwhelmed or frustrated by schoolwork. Whether we are working through a difficult math concept, preparing for a test, catching up on assignments, or creating a plan to stay organized, I aim to make learning feel manageable and achievable.
My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident than when they started—and to develop skills they can continue using independently long after tutoring ends.

My approach is personalized, supportive, and student-centered. I first take the time to understand how a student learns best, where they are struggling, and what skills they need to strengthen. I use clear explanations, visual examples, manipulatives, guided practice, and real-world connections to make challenging concepts easier to understand. I also incorporate executive functioning strategies such as organization, time management, planning, and breaking larger assignments into manageable steps.
A Typical Lesson
Each lesson begins with a quick check-in and review of previous skills or current assignments. We then identify the main goal for the session and work through the material using modeling, guided practice, and independent practice. I provide positive feedback throughout the lesson and adjust my approach based on the student's needs. We finish by reviewing what was learned and creating a clear plan for any remaining work or practice.
What Sets Me Apart
As a Learning Specialist and experienced classroom teacher, I understand that students do not all learn the same way. My goal is not simply to help students complete their homework, but to build their confidence, independence, and ability to advocate for themselves as learners. I have experience supporting students with different learning needs, academic skill levels, and executive functioning challenges.
