About Chardonnay
Hello! My name is Chardonnay, and I’m an English Literature, English Language, and Psychology tutor. In 2023, I worked as an assistant teacher for Year 1 students, supporting them in developing their reading and writing skills. I achieved an A* in English Literature and currently study Psychology at the University of Warwick.
I genuinely enjoy tutoring because helping students grow in subjects they want to improve in gives me a strong sense of fulfilment and pride. My teaching style focuses on sharing high-quality essay examples, carefully reviewing students’ work, offering constructive criticism, and recognising what they’ve done well. I also take time to understand the reasoning behind a student’s approach, so I can address misconceptions clearly and effectively.
Through a balance of encouragement, praise, and honest feedback, I aim to help students build confidence, deepen their understanding of the subject, and develop the ability to engage thoughtfully with criticism—skills that benefit them far beyond the classroom.

When teaching primary school children English Language and Literature, I adapt lessons to suit different learning styles by combining visual aids, storytelling, discussion, and hands-on activities. For example, I use pictures and story maps for visual learners, reading aloud and guided discussion for auditory learners, and sentence-building or role play for kinaesthetic learners. I use age-appropriate books, phonics resources, worksheets, and creative writing prompts to build confidence, enjoyment, and strong literacy foundations.
For secondary school students studying English, my teaching becomes more structured and personalised. I identify whether a student benefits more from clear frameworks or discussion-based learning, using model paragraphs, essay plans, annotated texts, and guided questioning. I support students with exam technique through past paper questions and detailed feedback on written work.
At A level, lessons are highly tailored and academically focused. I use mark schemes, examiner reports, essay exemplars, and targeted feedback to develop depth of analysis and confident academic writing. Teaching is adapted to individual needs, whether a student needs support with structure, interpretation, or analytical depth, ensuring focused and effective progress.
