About Jacob
I am an early-career academic with considerable experience of working with students from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I am a first-generation scholar who knows what it is like to have "imposter syndrome," and who knows the value that a good teacher or instructor can bring. If you a parent, you can be convinced of my professionalism, care, and patience with students. Before beginning my PhD, I worked in secondary schools across the country in both learning support and teaching capacities. I am committed to the highest standards in secondary and further education. However, most importantly, I am committed to instantiating a lifelong love of learning, researching, and writing in students. I believe that good grades follow from high standards. If you are an undergraduate or masters level student, you can be safe in the knowledge that I am a practicing academic who works with and marks term papers by undergraduate students as part of my day-to-day work. Again, my commitment to high academic standards will stand you in good stead here. I am open, engaging, and patient teacher - and I am certain that you will feel more confident in your own abilities at the end of our time working together.

I develop a learning plan dependent on the prior knowledge, needs, and expectations of the student.
If your son/daughter is preparing for examinations, then I will develop a rigorous curriculum that focuses on the improvement of students' examination and essay writing skills. I equip students with the tools to provide outstanding responses to even the most difficult questions. More importantly, I provide them with a self-efficacy in academic writing that will serve them well in higher education and beyond.
If you are an undergraduate or taught-masters student hoping to improve your grades: I have considerable experience with advising students working at a 2:1 or 2:2 pass mark and transforming their grades into a first class mark - not just as a one off, but consistently. I can help you to develop sound principles for researching, structuring, arguing, and writing undergraduate level essays which will help your confidence with academic work in the long term.
At a higher level, I am available for consultation with PhD funding applications and project/research development.
