About Liban
Hi, my name is Liban. I am a Swarthmore College graduate with a background in History and Education, and I have experience supporting students in reading, writing, and academic confidence-building. I have worked with students who need extra patience and individualized support, including students with special learning needs, and I understand how important it is to meet each learner where they are.
My tutoring style is calm, encouraging, and structured. I believe students improve when they feel respected, comfortable asking questions, and supported through each step of the learning process. Whether a student is working on reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, paragraph structure, or general English assignments, I focus on helping them build skills they can use independently.
I take professionalism seriously. I come prepared, communicate clearly, and make sure each lesson has a clear goal. My aim is not only to help students complete assignments, but to help them become more confident readers, writers, and thinkers.

My approach as a tutor is patient, structured, and confidence-building. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and slowly building skills they can use on their own. As a Swarthmore College graduate with experience supporting students with special needs, I know that every learner processes information differently, so I adjust my teaching style to the student rather than forcing one method on everyone.
For reading lessons, I focus on comprehension, vocabulary, main ideas, evidence, and helping students explain what they read in their own words. For writing lessons, I help students move from ideas to structure: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, grammar, sentence clarity, and building stronger paragraphs and essays. I like to make writing feel less intimidating by breaking it into smaller steps.
A typical lesson begins with a short check-in and review of what the student is working on in class. Then we set a clear goal for the session, such as understanding a reading passage, improving an essay draft, or organizing ideas for an assignment. We work through the material together, practice a specific skill, and end with a quick recap so the student leaves knowing exactly what improved and what to work on next.
What sets me apart is my ability to combine academic support with patience and encouragement. I do not just correct mistakes; I help students understand why something works, how to improve it, and how to feel more confident the next time they face a similar assignment.
My lessons are best for elementary, middle school, and high school students who need support in reading, writing, essay structure, comprehension, grammar, or general English assignments. I am especially comfortable working with students who benefit from extra patience, individualized instruction, or a slower step-by-step approach.
