About Tatum
I’m a passionate Biology tutor with over 9 years of experience helping young learners understand the living world around them. I hold a BSc in Ecology and Conservation, a field that deepened my appreciation for the delicate balance between plants, animals, and their environments. My favorite students to work with are middle schoolers, because this is the age when curiosity about nature really begins to bloom. They ask wonderful questions.
In my classes, learning biology often starts with simple observation. We might study the shapes of leaves, watch ants working together, or discuss how birds and insects survive in different habitats. These small moments of discovery are powerful. I also guide students through easy experiments, like planting seeds and tracking their germination day by day.
Stories about biodiversity bring science to life. I love sharing examples of unusual plants, clever animal behaviors, and fascinating ecosystems from around the world. Through these lessons, students begin to see how diverse and interconnected life truly is. Over the years, I’ve helped many young learners develop a lasting curiosity about nature and scientific inquiry. It’s incredibly rewarding.

My teaching approach focuses on helping students understand Biology as a connected and meaningful science rather than a list of facts. Lessons explore key areas such as evolutionary biology, natural selection, speciation, and phylogenetics to explain how life has changed over time. These topics reveal the relationships between organisms and the processes that shape biodiversity. Biology becomes a story of life unfolding across millions of years.
Critical thinking is at the center of every lesson. Students are encouraged to examine evidence, ask thoughtful questions, and build explanations based on scientific reasoning. Learning becomes active and engaging. Discussions and real-world examples help simplify complex biological ideas.
Connections between biology and chemistry are also explored, especially in areas related to food chemistry and green chemistry. Understanding these fields helps students see how biological systems interact with chemical processes in nature. It also highlights the importance of sustainable science.
Support is always focused on helping learners strengthen their understanding step by step. Difficult concepts become clearer through diagrams, examples, and guided discussions.
