About Emma
Hello! I'm Emma Lam, a pianist of 13 years, heading to Oberlin College and Conservatory (Fall 2025) for piano performance and business. My piano journey has been filled with some truly unforgettable experiences. I've had the incredible opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall three times in the last 3 years, and also had the exhilarating experience of playing piano concertos with a full orchestra, including the Budapest Dohnanyi Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, I won 1st Prize in the MTAC Northern California Concerto Competition (April 2024) and 2nd Prize in the Statewide competition (July 2024). And have recevied State Honors for my MTAC Certificate of Merit Panel Awards. At the United States Open Music Competition (USOMC), I've earned multiple 1st Prizes and was a Grand Prize Finalist and 1st Prize winner at the Young Soloist International Music Competition (October 2023). Beyond performing and competing, I'm always striving to grow as a musician, which includes attending the Adam Gyorgy Castle Academy in Hungary multiple times. I have had masterclasses with inspiring professors like Steven Spooner, Alexander Krobin, Inna Faliks, and Antonio Pompa-Baldi. Beyond piano, I led and taught diverse viola students as section leader for my high school's string and philharmonic orchestras.

While I love playing piano and performing for others, I love to share my passion in a different way, such as teaching students! Our lessons could consist of numerous things! You can bring me any piece of music that you would love to learn and I can help you through it! Methods on learning notes, technique practice, and musicality. If I do feel that a piece of repertoire is a bit above a student's level, I will suggest another piece that may be more suitable. Repertoire choices are welcome to all genres, not limited to just classical music.

Emma was the section leader for the violas in our highschool’s orchestra. She is a great teacher, and would always help our section out, ensuring we did the best we could. She is also a great leader, and always made sure we were confident in our abilities.
Emma is an amazing teacher when it comes to not only pushing you past what you were previously capable of, but also understanding limits. Working with her I got to see how she pushes you to conceptualize the music and thereby help your musicality. She was a fun and enjoyable teacher to have in and outside the music room, but she still knows how to get work done.
Emma is an amazing teacher that is well experienced within her craft. She is attentive and patient—qualities that will help all sorts of aspiring musicians excel in their own journey.
