About Archie
I am energised by seeing success in those I teach. This academic year, I have been privileged to have gained experience as a volunteer classroom music teacher at St Thomas Cantilupe School, Hereford. This has involved putting on lessons each afternoon for the different classes. At the end of their school year, I put on a concert to showcase the skills they have picked up, and it was a resounding success. It was so special to see each and every pupil thriving in their singing. Each class had been turned into a choir. I have taught five piano pupils from the ground up, and each pupil I have prepared for public exams has gone on to achieve great success, gaining the very top grades at GCSE, A Level, and graded piano/theory exams. Success comes from passion and a drive for learning, both from the point of view of the teacher and that of the student.

I typically offer one-hour lessons to students of any age, but with particular experience in working with secondary school pupils. I strive to make lessons enjoyable and engaging, whilst being absolutely thorough in teaching all the relevant details. I always spend many hours consulting a new exam board specification and all the associated past papers before I start planning any lessons, so that I have a deep understanding of their specific way of testing pupils' skills. I believe one of the biggest hurdles to a pupil's success is their own self-confidence, so I strongly believe in cultivating a strong sense of self-esteem amongst my pupils. I create specifically tailored worksheets and resources for each pupil I teach, to best aid them in their specific ways of learning. I have created unique past paper questions for my pupils, to ensure they are ready to tackle anything which may come up in the exam which hasn't already been covered by past exam papers, or to provide more practice. So far, I have taught from the OCR, Edexcel, and Eduqas (WJEC) syllabuses for GCSE/A Level Music. I have the following tutoring experience: - Music theory (four primary school pupils and one secondary school pupil for ABRSM Grade 5) - GCSE (two pupils) - A Level (two pupils, for both the listening paper and Bach Chorales) - Piano (five primary school pupils and one adult student) I also have extensive experience in classroom music teaching in primary schools and in directing choirs. I am an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music (ARSM Distinction in Singing), and hold further Distinctions in Grade 8 Piano, Theory, and Cello. I received straight A*s at A Level (Music, Mathematics, French, EPQ), and straight 9s at GCSE.
