About Madelyn
Received a score of 36 on the English section of the ACT and a 35 on the Reading section, and competed nationally in Speech and Debate. I have worked as a tutor for K-12 students for four years, assisting on ELA assignments, teaching vocabulary, revising essays, and preparing students for standardized testing! Am willing and ready to utilize whatever teaching method works best for my individual student — open to all grade levels and learning styles. I also want to make English enjoyable; it can be viewed as a “boring” subject by many students and I hope to make it engaging for those I work with!

Because of the variation in my students’ backgrounds, I personalize all learning methods to the individual. I want my students to understand how to solve specific problems, but I also want them to understand the general concepts associated with them. I believe the key to success is varied practice — instead of repeating the same types of questions over and over, I try to strengthen overall skills through trial and error, switching up formatting, and utilizing other resources and websites if something isn’t working for an individual. I am confident that anyone can better their English skills if given the right help and support!
