About Harish

Senior Examiner ~ 6 years experience ~ DBS checked ~ Taught the 11+ in the UK's top primary school.

I am also a senior examiner, marking for the country's leading examination board, where my marking has been rated as "Excellent" in all areas, every year. By being a senior examiner, it means that I have access to the latest resources, approaches and changes that have occurred in education. I have worked with curriculum lead teachers, head teachers and education directors, giving me an insight into the best approaches to tackling examinations and coursework. I am currently teaching and offering private tuition which gives me first hand knowledge of the required skills needed for top marks. I currently tutor both privately as well as in schools as an external educational consultant to either raise standards or to accelerate groups of students. By being relatively young, parents often comment on how well I get on with their child. To me, rapport is the absolute foundational building block of successful tuition. With a proven track record with my students doing very well at both GCSE and A Level, it is clear my methods are effective. By achieving 12 GCSE's myself, completing some in just 1 year, this gives me a broad knowledge of the syllabus. In addition, my A levels have reinforced this knowledge and given me a breadth of wisdom into the insight of perfecting examination techniques which I can, and have, passed to a plethora of my students. I understand what it takes to attain the highest marks possible; during university, my marks were the ranked as some of the highest not only in my year but also in the university's history, with many of my papers being published. The key to examination success is seldom simply learning what is in the textbook; indeed, more often than not, the opposite is true. It is about understanding what the examiner wants! Contrary to popular belief, examiners are not mean or cruel - they actually want to award the highest possible marks; students just have to learn how to structure, approach and write in a way to allow them to do so.

My main approach to tutoring is understanding my student, meticulous planning and engagement. I tend to use a mix of resources in my lessons. For example, I may use my whiteboard, exam questions, model answers, or anything creative to keep my students engaged. I also like to set questions for homework and intertwine past exam questions with my teaching, and often set mock examinations.

To me teaching is a passion. I absolutely love teaching and tutoring. Instead of being a tutor as a last resort, teaching is my absolute first choice. The fact that I am so passionate about teaching, enjoying every lesson I plan and teach, really transpires to my students where they gain a similar positive energy, helping them for their future studies.

I have coached many of students over the past 6 years for entrance exams alone. These schools include: the prestigious Haberdashers school, Latymer, Queen Elizabeth's boys, St Micheal's, St Paul's, Westminster, Henrietta Barnett, Dame Alice Owen and, Mill Hill, Highgate, St Albans Boys and St Columbas'. l.

I have plenty of resources from most grammar and independent schools coupled with the resources I have personally created.

Reviews: [1] " I would like to say how wonderful Harish is with both my children. He teaches my 13 year old son who has poor concentration in Maths. My son not only finds Maths hard, but boring too. Harish has a way to make the subject fun and not at all stressful. Harish is the most patient, kind and considerate Tutor. He makes the subject fun and will go over the topics to ensure that what he has taught has not been forgotten. Spencer is becoming more confident with his approach to the subject. All thanks to Harish. Harish also teaches my 17 year old daughter A level English Literature - again he makes the teaching interesting and challenging. He has also boosted her confidence and has built on her knowledge. Harish is a good teacher with a good understanding of his pupils and makes everything workable. So glad we found him."

Lesley Glanz [2]: "Harish is an excellent teacher who really cares - enough to have taught her one Sunday because she was upset at missing a lesson close to her GCSE exam! He had a wonderful rapport with my daughter and really knows his stuff so she loved her lessons with him. I think she will do really well in her geography exam but I know she will miss her geography lessons!" Aisha B.

*Please note, that prices for A Level may incur an extra fee, as well as tuition for 11+.

*Please note, there may be a travel fee added *

If you have any questions whatsoever, even if it is for some advice, simply drop me a message and I would be more than happy to respond.

If you have made it all the way down to read this, well done! It may sound cliché, but learning really is a journey. It takes time to find the right tutor, but once you have, your child's confidence and results will accelerate.

*****Please note: whilst this may sound obvious, no tutor can ever guarantee results of a child.***** I would never be able to guarantee results for a student.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest began while I was still at school. Having completed 14 GCSEs — some in just one year — I became fascinated not only with learning but also with how exams are structured and assessed. Later, at university, my papers were ranked among the highest in the institution’s history and several were published. Along the way, I realised that I enjoyed helping peers understand difficult material and exam techniques. Tutoring gave me the perfect platform to combine my passion for teaching with my insight into examinations.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialise in teaching is exam technique — helping students understand precisely what examiners are looking for. I like to show them how to structure an answer, how to interpret questions, and how to maximise marks. Topics that allow discussion, critical thinking, and clear argumentation are particularly enjoyable. Less exciting for me are areas that require only memorisation, but even then, I try to connect them back to the bigger picture so students see their relevance.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I was fortunate to have teachers who valued clarity and encouraged curiosity. They demonstrated that teaching isn’t just about transmitting information, but about inspiring students to see connections and think critically. Their approach motivated me to pursue teaching as my first choice — not a fallback option.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs three things: subject expertise, the ability to build rapport, and the skill to translate examiner expectations into student success. Expertise ensures accuracy, rapport creates trust and motivation, and exam insight ensures results. Adaptability, patience, and genuine enthusiasm are equally important — students learn best when they feel supported and engaged.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my students once struggled to move past a certain grade in school despite working incredibly hard. After we spent time focusing not just on the content, but on examiner expectations and answer structures, something clicked. In their next exam, they scored higher marks — and later achieved an overall grade that they had once thought impossible. That transformation reinforced my belief that exam success is as much about technique as it is about knowledge.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One challenge I continue to see is the widespread misconception that exams are about rote learning. Many students come to me with the idea that memorisation is the key, when in fact examiners want analysis, evaluation, and well-structured answers. Helping students unlearn those habits and shift to a smarter, examiner-focused approach is often the first challenge — but once they do, their confidence and results skyrocket.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is teaching itself. While I love my subject, what truly excites me is guiding students to realise their potential. I enjoy planning lessons, using creative resources, and watching my students’ confidence grow. Parents often comment on the rapport I build with their children — and I think that’s because I bring genuine energy and enjoyment into every lesson. I truly love what I do - I often tell my family that I genuinely have the best job in the word.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I believe what makes me a Superprof is the unique combination of examiner insight, proven results, and passion. As a senior examiner, I know exactly what examiners are looking for. As a tutor, I’ve helped countless students achieve top grades, with many scoring full marks. And as a teacher, I bring genuine enthusiasm and energy that students pick up on. Tutoring is not just a job for me — it’s a calling. That’s why my students consistently succeed, not only academically but also in developing a positive attitude toward learning.
