About Heather
I hold an initial degree in Hearing Impaired Education and am certified in Extended Curriculum, qualifying me to teach students of all abilities from kindergarten through 12th grade. My experience spans self-contained classrooms, resource rooms, virtual settings, and one-on-one instruction, including work with non-verbal students in online environments. As a parent of children with special needs myself, I bring not only professional expertise but also personal understanding of the patience, creativity, and flexibility each child deserves. I believe open, consistent communication with parents is essential, and I establish ongoing systems to ensure you’re always informed and involved in your child’s progress. Learning doesn’t stop when the tutoring session ends; I provide optional supplemental assignments to reinforce skills between sessions. Above all, my passion lies in discovering what inspires each student and tailoring instruction to spark their curiosity, confidence, and love of learning.

Share your IEP goals and receive supplemental instruction designed for the individual, or request support with challenges that are not addressed at any school. I will enhance your homeschool curriculum, maintain and generalize skills that were difficult to attain, or assess and develop a new program. Instruction is best when there is consistency and 'buy-in,' and I will help you achieve that. Together we will learn and be proud of what we've accomplished. Lessons are tailored to the individual, based on interests, challenges, and strengths. Success is the only option once we establish the understanding that learning is always happening even through mistakes and yes, mild frustration. However, learning is best accomplished when it happens through excited discovery supported by positive reinforcement. We will dig deep and uncover the magic that unlocks the learning process, making our journey together enjoyable and productive. My extensive background includes all ages and abilities. I am no longer in the classroom because I have chosen to stay home to support my own child with special needs, but my passion for teaching remains. I've always had a strong desire to teach students who may have struggled with learning in the past. Together we can change that and only look ahead with a joy and a desire for learning.

We first met Ms. Carr in Elementary / Middle school. Sometimes I am not sure how we would have made it without her. She has not only instructed our special needs daughter through most of middle school, but all of her high school years up to now. And since we went through the COVID shut down with her, we know how well she even did with online instruction. She is very knowledgeable with special needs/autistic youth, and works diligently to find the best fit for each of them to learn. Not only an asset to our child, but to us as parents. We will surely miss her.
