About Doreen
I have worked with children ranging from birth to 18 years of age in Central Massachusetts for 22 years. From Early Intervention in homes, daycares and preschools to elementary schools, junior high and high school. In recent years, I have also worked in Behavior therapy, residential children's care, and counseling. I graduated from Anna Maria College with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, and a second Master's Degree in Education. I hold a Massachusetts certification in Early Intervention, Elementary Education, and Moderate Disabilities 5-12. My passion is adapting education in a way that enables all children to learn. I am currently employed as a Special Education teacher at Doherty Memorial High-School in Worcester.

My teaching approach aims to create an equitable and nurturing learning environment for all students, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.
I enjoy creating lesson plans for students in grades four through high school. I use various techniques tailored to the specific needs of my students. For students who have difficulty learning by listening, I can pre-teach difficult vocabulary and concepts, provide study guides and worksheets, and use visuals such as flashcards. I can also encourage students to take notes, visualize information, and use acronyms to remember lists. For students who struggle with verbal expression, I can accept alternate forms of information sharing, such as written reports, artistic creations, or demonstrations. I can also teach body and language expression, encourage questions and discussions. For students who have difficulty reading, I am able to provide highlighted material, find texts written at a lower level, and allow for more support.
