Spanish-speaking English Literature graduate and MA student - English tutor with Sophie

I've known Sophie for over 10 years. Having gone through secondary school together, we've remained friends ever since. We were in the same A-Level class for English and it was always clear that Sophie had a natural talent for the subject. She always had the best ideas, which she would share with the class in the most eloquent and illuminating manner, as well as the best grades - winning the much-deserved prize for English in year 13. But I don't just think she'd be a great tutor because of her talent for the subject; Sophie is a kind, warm person whose intelligence is never intimidating. She's supported me through extremely difficult situations in my life and is the first person I turn to in times of need so I know she'd be a great support to any student she tutors. I also think she would teach people in a way that raises their confidence in both themselves and their ability in a given subject. Sophie is articulate, insightful, sensitive and very intuitive, which are all qualities I believe make a great teacher. For these reasons, I really couldn't recommend her enough.

Sophie has been facilitating a weekly creative writing workshop for vulnerable and homeless adults at Streets Kitchen for four months. She supports people to experiment and take initiative in their learning and encourages them to take risks in their writing. The session has a group of regular attendees, and some of the work has been recorded and performed for our podcast and monthly poetry event.
