About Blanca

¡Hola! I'm Blanca, from the beautiful city of Madrid in Spain (if you haven't visited it yet, you should!) I'm a native speaker looking forward to teaching you this marvellous language!

I am currently working in a primary school in London. Besides that, I have been working as a tutor teaching English as a Foreign Language and Spanish (as a foreign language and as a school subject back In Spain) since 2016.
You can find me in the Spanish website of Superprof to see my students’ comments and reviews.

What can I help you with?

- Private/small groups Online Spanish as a Foreign Language lessons to practice any of the four skills (oral/written expression and oral/written comprehension) to a wide range of levels.

- GCSEs exam preparation.

- Private/small groups Online Spanish lessons for families from a country in which Spanish is the main language who wish to help their children to practise the language outside home and get more confident with it.

- Private/small groups Online Spanish lessons as a school subject following the Spanish Education Curriculum.

- You may just need some formal/informal conversational lessons or someone to clarify what you are learning at school. Just drop me a line and let me know your needs!!

My Certificates are:

- METHODOLOGY FOR TEACHING SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. Spanish Courses Unamuno (school accredited by Instituto Cervantes located in Salamanca, Spain)

- GRAMMAR COURSE FOR SPANISH TEACHING PURPOSES. Spanish Courses Unamuno (school accredited by Instituto Cervantes located in Salamanca, Spain)

- CAMBRIDGE CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLISH (CAE). Level C1. The London Exam Centre (London, UK).

I have materials, worksheets, textbooks, etc. that I will borrow the student without problem through email.

The way I normally structure my lessons is as follows ALTHOUGH I adapt them to my students depending on theirs needs:

- Warm up. A few minutes of conversation in Spanish to switch on the Spanish brain!
- Time for questions about previous lessons to clarify concepts or to check homework the pupil might have done on their own.
- Presentation of the Learning Objective.
- Explanation
- Written activities
- Speaking activities/games to activate what the student has been learning during the session.

I have a DBS in the update service and I can provide any references you may like to have.

The rate shown in my profile is the basis. Please ask without commitment!

Thank you for reading me!

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I was born in Madrid, Spain, so I am a native speaker!
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Queen Isabel La Católica. A very brave and inspiring woman who helped Cristobal Colón
to reach America and spread the Spanish culture and language.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

I particularly like our tradition called "sobremesa", which is a time after lunch in which
everyone remains seated at the table having coffee or tea chatting in a relaxed way for
hours. It's the perfect occasion to spend some quality time with your loved ones.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Spanish is a globally spoken language that allows you to communicate in a large part of
the world, whether you are travelling for work or pleasure. Also, given the globalised world
we live in, knowing Spanish makes you attractive to many companies operating
internationally, from a professional point of view.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The answer to this question depends on the background of the learner, their mother
tongues, and the type of intelligence they have developed. For example, if your mother
tongue is German, learning English will be easier since English comes from a Germanic
language that was brought to the British Isles by Anglo-Saxon tribes, and there are many
    similarities.

Based on my experience, moving to live, study, or work in a country where you can
practise the language is what will help you learn it more easily and quickly.

The main difficulty for my students is all the different conjugations of the verbs we have in
    the Spanish language!!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I met the person I chose to accompany me for the rest of my life in an English academy in
Spain. After some time apart, life brought us back together in England. Later, I discovered
a notebook from that English course where this special person had written certain
messages camouflaged among the activities we were given, aiming to catch my attention
in class. It's a lovely memory of our student days and how our story began.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

When I was in secondary school, I traveled with my classmates to Granadilla (Cáceres,
Spain), a small abandoned village that we brought to life for a week along with two other
groups from Valencia and Ávila. During that week, we engaged in various activities such
as agriculture, pottery, livestock farming, gardening and basket weaving, among others. In
the evenings, there were themed parties, astronomy sessions and ghost stories. We also
ran the village bar and served the tourists who came by, while others took on roles like
postman or mayor of the village. It was an unforgettable experience and we made great
    friends.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I currently work in a school in London where the cultural diversity and individual needs of
each student are enormous. Every day, I learn new things from my students, their cultures,
and their traditions. Many of them arrive in the classroom with hardly any knowledge of
English, and seeing their progress is immensely gratifying. Some of them have special
learning needs, and I am acquiring many strategies to make the curriculum accessible to
them as well. Everyday, when they come to me for a hug as a way of saying "good
morning," it comforts me to think that it's a good sign that I'm doing something right and
that I'm having an impact on someone who might one day change the world.
