About Carine
I have been baking sourdough bread for many years, mostly at home, for family, friends, and everyday life. Over time, I noticed that whenever I brought bread to someone, the same questions kept coming up — how it was made, why it worked, and why their own attempts often didn’t. That’s what led me to start giving lessons. I realized that many people struggle with sourdough not because it’s too difficult, but because the process is often unclear or explained in a way that feels overwhelming. Discovering the Tartine Bakery sourdough method was a turning point for me, as it helped me better understand fermentation and achieve consistent, reliable results. Over the years, I’ve also taught this method to my own children when they were around 10 years old, which reinforced my belief that sourdough can be explained in a clear, simple, and approachable way. My approach as a tutor is practical and focused on understanding rather than strict rules. I enjoy helping people gain confidence, adapt sourdough to their own routine, and understand why their bread works — or doesn’t. One of the most rewarding moments is seeing someone bake their first beautiful loaf and realize they can do it again on their own.

Struggling to get consistent sourdough results at home? Flat loaves, dense crumb, timing that never quite works?
Whether you’re just starting out or already baking, I help home bakers understand why their bread behaves the way it does and make sourdough work reliably at home, without professional equipment or rigid schedules.
We work with simple tools and a regular oven — a professional setup is not required to achieve great results.
The process is based on the Tartine Bakery sourdough bread recipe, a well-known method developed by a San Francisco bakery recognized for its naturally fermented bread. I break this method down into clear, simple steps and adapt it to real-life schedules, including busy ones. The goal is not to follow a rigid recipe, but to understand what matters and how to make it work consistently at home.
I offer two types of support, depending on your needs. For beginners, I guide you through the complete sourdough process, from creating and maintaining a starter to mixing, fermentation, shaping, and baking a successful loaf. For those who already bake sourdough, I offer targeted sessions to identify why a loaf isn’t working and how to fix specific issues such as flat bread, dense crumb, timing problems, or overly sour results.
Because sourdough naturally takes time, lessons focus on the key decision points rather than watching dough for hours. I adapt the process to your schedule, and you can follow the full workflow between sessions using my YouTube tutorial, with the option to review results and troubleshoot together.
Lessons are suitable for all levels and can be one-on-one or in small groups, online, by phone, or in person.

Carine has been an incredible French tutor! We started working together earlier this year when I set a goal to learn French, and she’s been absolutely instrumental in helping me stay consistent and motivated.
What I appreciate most is how she balances structure with flexibility. Some sessions are focused on building vocabulary, while others dive into cultural topics, so I feel like I’m not just learning the language, but actually understanding how it’s lived and spoken.
One of my favorite parts of our lessons is an exercise where we describe what’s happening in a picture. It’s such a fun and effective way to practice thinking and speaking in French in a natural way.
I would absolutely recommend Carine to anyone looking for a thoughtful and engaging tutor. She is the BEST!Our experience has been exceptional. Teaching a 3.5-year-old requires a special kind of creativity and patience, and Carine truly excels at both. She makes each lesson fun and engaging through songs, cooking, and interactive activities, all while building a strong foundation in the language. Our son is not only learning French, but also developing a genuine love for it. We’ve seen such wonderful progress in a short time. We’re incredibly grateful for Carine’s dedication and highly recommend her to any family with young children
Carine often works with stories in her French lessons, both reading them and encouraging students to tell their own. This makes learning French feel more natural and engaging, especially for children.
Reading stories helps students pick up vocabulary and structure, while telling stories gives them the confidence to actually use the language. Carine guides this gently, without interrupting too much, so students stay focused on meaning rather than mistakes.
It’s an approach that helps French stick and makes speaking feel easier and more enjoyable over time.I find this way of teaching really interesting, during my schooling I find it a shame that dialogue was not essential for students, you first had to know the theory but it is not in this way that you learn a language quickly. It's really the fact of talking with people and exchanging our anecdotes that makes us learn, thank you Carine
Carine explains French in a very clear and simple way. She has a talent for breaking down rules so they make sense and are easy to remember, without turning lessons into heavy grammar sessions.
What I really appreciate is that she focuses on what’s useful. Instead of overwhelming students, she gives simple explanations that help things click and stay with you.
Her lessons feel calm and well paced, and learning French with her feels approachable rather than intimidating.Carine has a very natural way of teaching French to kids. She’s patient, attentive, and knows how to adjust to each child’s personality and level without making things feel forced.
What I appreciate most is how relaxed her lessons are while still being effective. Children are encouraged to speak, try, and make mistakes without pressure. She keeps them engaged and focused, and progress happens naturally over time.
She’s clearly experienced, well organized, and takes her role as a teacher seriously. I would confidently recommend her to families looking for a reliable and thoughtful French teacher for their children.I’ve seen how Carine teaches French with children and teenagers. She’s a native French speaker from Switzerland and a certified teacher, but what really stands out is how comfortable and natural she is with kids.
She creates a fun, hands-on environment where children feel safe speaking and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. She adapts easily to different ages and personalities, and her lessons feel engaging without being rigid or overly academic.
She has a real ability to connect with children and help them progress with confidence. I would highly recommend her to families looking for a supportive, thoughtful, and experienced French teacher for their children.View more recommendations
