I have taught students in secondary schools and teach privately. My teaching method is based on the needs of the student.
In order to understand the strengths and weaknesses of students my methodological approach focuses on showing the relationship between technique and practice in order to allow the student to tailor their learning experience to their needs. I can teach songs on request and comfortable teaching a diverse range of styles. It is my prime prerogative that musicians are able to play together. For this reason there is a focus in my teaching on improvisation techniques in order that musicians can be comfortable to play together without being limited by their own technique.
Beginner: Holding the pick the guitar and placement of thumb on neck; open chords; Major and Minor Pentatonic scales and their relationship to the Instrument; Hammer-on and Pull-offs; Natural Harmonics; Basic improvisation using Pentatonics.
Intermediate Level: Breaking down Major and Minor Shapes and chords into Arpeggios; Sweep picking with a focus on Interval composition and wrist technique; Basic tapping on Major and Minor shapes; Circle of Fifths, Modal Theory; Performing with other musicians; Bending, Pinch Harmonics. Basic Rock/ Metal Music History and Business, Improvisation with a focus on chord shadowing in lead playing.
Advanced: Hybrid and Economy Picking; Finger-picking; Tapped Harmonics; Relationship between overtones and fundamental frequencies in relation to harmonics in the guitar neck, 4 Part Harmony composition, Double track recording, adding complex intervals to chords, Two handed-tapping, flutters and dive-bombs, Chorus Delay reverb and the philosophy of tone, Improvisation with a focus on genre specificity and musical texture.

Perfect! Tailors lessons to individual interests, clearly passionate and genuinely enjoyable to be around. Looking forward to future lessons
- Bailey is a great student with a strong interest in learning to play guitar and about the way music works. On our lesson he picked up information really fast and always tried to find ways to remember it through the fretboard itself. I really enjoyed our first lesson and am looking forward to teaching Bailey a lot more.Selmo's response :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
A few years ago selmo taught me how to read guitar sheets and how to play basic scales, cord's and gave me confidence to experience more with my guitar.
Selmo is a passionate and experienced musician, as a student he was eager to learn and has continued to learn, experimenting with different ways of creating sounds. As a teacher his passion for playing guitar naturally shines through and is often inspirational to others..
I've only had the pleasure of jamming with Selmo a few times in all the time I've known him, but he's easily one of the most passionate and enthusiastic guitar players I know.
For a lesson from a skilled and well rounded guitarist with an appreciation for all genres you can't go wrong with Selmo.
Give him a go. You won't regret it.View more recommendations
