About Yousuf
I am currently at McGill studying in Software Engineering. I have been tutoring throughout high school and Cegep, and my most recent experience was with John Abbott's tutoring assistance program, where I helped weekly tutees succeed in Calculus by first learning it's fundamental principles, and then going over some good problem solving strategies.

I structure my sessions in a simple way: the tutee will give an example of a problem they are struggling with, and we will both attempt it to see where they might be going wrong. This usually allows me gauge where exactly they are having issues, and what level of understanding they have of the problem itself. Based on this, I am able to situate where in the learning process I need to situate myself- was there a problem with the initial understanding of the subject? If not, then what problem solving strategies are being misused or could be improved? Is the problem not related to the subject at hand, but rather an earlier problem? This latter question is especially important, as oftentimes, tutees will come to me with calculus problem, only to discover that they are actually having trouble with factoring or logarithms. I then structure the rest of the tutoring session in order to best tackle the relevant question, making sure to always test the tutee's knowledge by solving more problems.
