About Alex
I graduated from DigiPen Institute of Technology's rigorous Real-Time Interactive Simulation program, an extremely hands-on applied computer science education where I built four major team game projects, 2D and 3D renderers from scratch with OpenGL and DirectX, 2D physics simulation, networking for multiplayer games, and more.
I spent more than two years professionally building mobile games, more than four years in DevOps at a fintech start-up, two years teaching core programming languages and elective curriculum at my alma mater, and two years in operating system networking software at Nintendo.

I teach computer programming to students of any level from master's degree candidates to first-time programmers as young as middle school. I approach programming education from a fundamentals-first mindset where many instructors are content to present lessons without explaining where assignment complexities originate. I'm a languages nerd and can show you the differences and similarities between solutions in more than a dozen languages.
I won't tell you what code to write next. If you ask, I'll answer your question with a question designed to get you to think about what your assignment requires and which part of the material you've learned applies. I'll show you examples and samples similar to your coursework, and help you find and navigate reference resources, which is the bread and butter of every software engineer's career.
As a speaker of many programming languages, I teach in C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Lua, Bash, Scheme, SQL, Python, Ruby, Nix, Puppet, Haskell, and Idris. I teach with tools such as Linux, Git, Android Studio, Roblox, OpenGL, Jenkins, Docker, and AWS. I teach core software development techniques, DevOps, Web development with HTML and CSS.
