About Avery
I am an enthusiastic piano tutor with 14 years of professional experience and a record of successfully teaching around 300 students, including teenagers, college learners, and adults. My lessons are designed to help students develop technical skill, musical expression, and performance confidence while cultivating a deep appreciation for music.
My teaching philosophy combines strong technical foundations with creative musical interpretation, focusing on posture, hand coordination, finger independence, scales, arpeggios, rhythm, sight-reading, music theory, and expressive phrasing. I encourage students to connect emotionally with each piece and explore their own musical voice.
Lessons balance technical exercises, theory, and repertoire practice, with beginners gaining confidence through foundational exercises and simple pieces, and advanced students refining performance skills and tackling complex compositions. Many students have achieved excellent results in graded examinations and performed confidently in recitals and competitions.

My piano teaching philosophy focuses on long-term growth through adaptability, collaboration, flexibility, and encouragement. I understand that progress in music requires patience and consistent effort, so I design lessons that are clear, structured, and motivating. I carefully observe how each student responds to instruction and adjust my methods to suit their individual needs.
I prioritise developing essential technical skills such as finger strength, hand independence, rhythm stability, articulation, and expressive phrasing. I guide students step by step through their repertoire, ensuring they understand both technique and musical meaning.
Flexibility allows me to revisit foundational skills when necessary and adapt the lesson plan to match improvement levels. Collaboration empowers students to take responsibility for their progress, increasing motivation and accountability. I maintain a positive and respectful learning environment where achievements are celebrated and challenges are addressed patiently.
In addition to piano performance, I teach ear training, music theory, keyboard skills, and music appreciation to build well-rounded and confident musicians.
