Hello, I'm Kira. My journey with Chinese began not just with learning words, but with falling in love with the hidden universe within its literature. For me, the true magic of Chinese lies in its exquisite layers of meaning. Much of Chinese literature—from classical poetry to modern prose—is crafted like a delicate onion or an intricate puzzle box. On the surface, there is a straightforward narrative, but beneath that, layer upon layer of puns, allusions, and cultural references await discovery. It is this intellectual treasure hunt—the process of unpacking a single character or phrase to reveal a world of history, emotion, and wit—that captivated me and continues to fuel my passion. Why I Teach I believe that to truly master Chinese, one must move beyond vocabulary and grammar to appreciate the art of implication. My teaching philosophy is built on this foundation. I don't just want to teach you how to pronounce words correctly or write characters accurately (though we will master those essentials!). I want to equip you with the tools to read between the lines.
