About Tianyu
I'm a passionate musician with extensive experience in flute, piano and piccolo performance and teaching. I have a Certificate of Performance and AMusA in flute and piano, and have been a leader in various top ensembles, including the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra. As a receiver of a Full Musical Scholarship at my college, I aim to inspire students of all ages and skill levels, helping them build technical proficiency and express their creativity through music. Teaching allows me to share the joy of music and pass on the skills that have helped me succeed. My goal is to guide students on their musical journey and help them reach their full potential. Whether you’re just starting out or already have some experience, I’m here to help you improve at your own pace. We’ll make lessons enjoyable and focused on building your confidence and skills so you can reach your musical goals.

My teaching approach emphasizes a balance of technical proficiency, musical expression, and a deep understanding of music theory. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player, I tailor each lesson to your individual needs and goals, ensuring you progress steadily while enjoying the process.
**Techniques & Teaching Methodology:**
- I integrate technical exercises with repertoire, focusing on sound production, breath control, articulation, and musicality.
- I incorporate ear training, sight-reading, and improvisation into lessons to enhance overall musicianship.
- I utilize a range of teaching tools, including exercises for rhythm, scales, and performance pieces, to help students gain confidence and fluency in their playing.
- For more advanced students, I also delve into advanced techniques, interpretation, and performance preparation.
**Typical Length of a Lesson:**
Lessons typically last 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student's age and level. Shorter lessons are ideal for younger or beginner students, while more advanced students may benefit from longer sessions to explore music in greater depth.
**Qualifications & Experience:**
With a Certificate of Performance in Flute, an AMusA in Piano, and extensive experience as a performer, including leading as First Flute Section Leader for a top college wind symphony, I bring a wealth of musicianship to my teaching. I have been selected for SHEP top-level ensembles for three consecutive years and have performed with the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra. Additionally, I’m a frequent prizewinner at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. I have a wide range of experiences tutoring younger children as a senior flute player at my college.
