About Alastair
I am a highly experienced mathematics tutor with a First-Class MSc in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics from the University of Warwick, alongside 9 years of experience in senior financial markets roles at J.P. Morgan. I have worked in high-pressure, analytical environments managing complex problem-solving and client-facing responsibilities, which directly informs my teaching style. I am professional, structured and committed to helping students achieve strong academic results through clear explanation, patience and tailored support. I teach GCSE and A-Level Maths and related quantitative subjects, focusing on building both confidence and exam performance.

My lessons are structured, focused and tailored to each student’s goals, whether that is improving GCSE grades, securing A/A* at A-Level, or building confidence with problem-solving. I break down complex mathematical and economic concepts into clear, logical steps and focus heavily on exam technique, application, and understanding rather than memorisation. Sessions typically last 60 minutes and are adapted to the student’s level, pace and learning style. I teach GCSE and A-Level Maths (and related quantitative subjects) to students aged 14–18, as well as adults who want to strengthen their analytical skills. My background in Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics from the University of Warwick, combined with 9 years in senior financial markets roles, allows me to bring real-world analytical thinking into my teaching, helping students understand not just how to solve problems, but why methods work.
