About Fiona
Before college I lived in China for 16 years without a single day not reading or writing in Chinese. I dig into the deeper part of Chinese culture, traditional or contemporary, mainstream or less-known schools of thought. My personal interest in Chinese language and Chinese culture provides a gateway into a bigger picture when I look into Western culture. After studying and working in Western culture, I gained a deeper understanding of the divergences and commonalities of the two. Language is an important vehicle for the self-expression of a culture, no effective language study can be fully separated from knowing the essentials of its culture, I always apply this principle to my teaching practice. On the second part, I use a distinctive method to sharpen the language skills of my students, this tried and proven approach will help language learners build a solid foundation and move faster to the next skill level.

I design my classes based on the personal interest of students and adjust the curriculum according to the distinct pursuits of each individual. My students are an important participant in the class design, together we will make a tailored plan for short-term or long-term goals. I work from an academic background of humanities subjects with a major in Western Philosophy, from childhood I received systematic language training in Classical Chinese and Ancient Chinese history, as a teacher, I also taught myself to understand my students and think like they do. Altogether, I seek to be a friend of my students on their language journey, trustful, inspirational and long-lasting.
