About Sarah
I am a student at the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse majoring in Elementary Education with minors in TESOL and Spanish. I previously had an internship at an elementary school which entailed instructing reading groups, science experiments, grading quizzes, etc. In addition to the internship, I volunteered at a different school to work with English Learners where I tested their English skills by playing word games, memory games, and making vocabulary lists. Before COVID-19 I was a tutor with the Multicultural Education program and through that, I had one-on-one tutor sessions with a student who struggled with writing and math. English is my native language and I have been learning/speaking Spanish for 8 years.

I approach each topic by narrowing down the areas where the students may fall weak in. After I figure out what it is that the student needs the most work on, we will work diligently on that one topic with flashcards or whiteboards and at the end of each rep of flashcards, I will quiz the student to see their progress. If they do not seem prepared enough to go further with the topic or on to another topic, we will do more reps of that same topic, adding mnemonics to help the student remember or come up with acronyms if the topic is vocab. Something else I like to do, especially with young learners, is makeup rhymes or jingles to help them better understand what it is that their learning.
