About Nazim
Nazim has worked with some of the world's greatest jazz masters such as:
Eddie Harris, Eddie Henderson, Hank Jones, Arthur Prysock, Richard "Groove" Holmes, Carl Burnett, Billy Higgins, Pharoah Sanders, Richard "Muhal" Abrams, Jimmy Smith, John Handy, Mary Stallings and many others.
I studied with Eddie Harris and Joe Henderson for a while. Eddie Harris was my biggest influence.
Nazim has had an extensive history mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area. He played with the San Francisco Big Band for 13 years; performed with his own group (The Nazim Rashid Sextet) and is currently performing with his quartet (The New Renaissance Quartet aka Nazim Rashid & New Renaissance) in the Phoenix, AZ area.
Nazim recorded a new age CD release -Erin Jacobsen's "Hour of the Pearl" on Ursa Minor Records and a CD Released under his name in 2002 entitled "REMEMBRANCE" on Presto Records.
He also toured with the Coasters and the Drifters in the late 70's.
Nazim teaches saxophone lessons privately calling his course "A Holistic Approach to the Art Form." He includes Personal Development training along with an emphasis on correct breathing and muscle development for his students.

As you can see from my qualifications, I’ve had extraordinary experience as a professional jazz musician as well as private teaching experience for the past 43 years. I am considered a breathing expert as I have given breathing workshops many times in middle and high school settings. We will focus on breathing first as that is where your sound and strength originate. Correct posture, approach to your horn, mouthpiece and reed relationships are all a part of the beginning process before a note comes out. Reading and understanding the language of music is key and I will break it all down to you in small digestible steps.
