I was a student with Francis until ill health got the better of me, he is a super teacher, very understanding of people with different health needs and able to help make adjustments when necessary. He’s my teacher of choice, really good at understanding the skills needed and passing that on, he’s 1st class

I decided, after a break of many years, to take up observational drawing again, and was lucky enough to find Francis as a teacher. In my first lesson I used charcoal in a number of different approaches to draw a still life. Francis put me at ease straightaway and his peaceful studio was a perfect environment for focussing on the drawing task. He is a patient teacher and guide, and I would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to improve their painting and drawing skills.

I’ve been taking a portraiture class with Francis for over 2 years now. He is an extremely talented artist but also an encouraging, kind and insightful teacher. I started as a complete beginner but now, under his guidance and encouragement, I can produce portraits that I am really proud of. I’ve had tutoring with Francis for several months now and the experience has been excellent!

We’ve done some distance sessions where he would critique my work live (mostly portraits!), as well as some in person sessions where he has introduced me to oil paints and the fundamentals of mixing physical paint (I have only worked digitally with colour).
