About Dr Paul Poon
I have taught children aged 5 to adults aged 70 of all levels, from beginner to advanced, both in person and online. Having completed coursework in pedagogy for both children and adults, I have research-backed methods for teaching for all ages. I have won many piano competitions and have also performed professionally in numerous events.

I have been teaching piano for over 20 years and I will teach you according to your unique learning needs, learning styles, goals, and personality. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all when it comes to something as important as education. Having been taught by several classical concert pianists, I will share their high-level learning methods and approaches with you. As well, I have obtained numerous competition awards, and performed in many venues. My primary focus is to provide a positive experience for you -- whether you want to play the piano seriously for certification, competitions or just for fun. I am not just a piano teacher for you -- I am your mentor, and am concerned with aspects of your life outside of piano that inevitably influence your motivation, drive, and performance in piano. If you are a beginner, it is important that you get on the right track, in terms of technique and practice habits because once bad habits are learned, it is very difficult to unlearn them. I will ensure that your journey in piano will be a smooth, efficient, and enjoyable one. For the adult learners who start later in life, I admire your dedication and you have come to the right place. Adults learn differently from children and I have completed pedagogical education for both teaching adults and children. As adults, a learning style that allows you to use critical thinking and problem-solving works best, as research shows. Also, the discipline that you have developed in your life experience is a great asset to your journey in learning piano.
