I am a womenswear fashion designer and MA student at the Royal College of Art, specialising in garment construction, pattern cutting, tailoring, and experimental materials. Alongside my design practice, I have experience working across fashion studios and developing my own material research, including an ongoing bioplastic project. I am a womenswear fashion designer currently undertaking an MA at the Royal College of Art, with a particular focus on material innovation and experimental textiles. I am currently developing a bioplastic project that explores new possibilities for sustainable fashion materials, with the aim of presenting the work through international exhibitions and creative opportunities. Alongside my design practice, I offer personalised sewing tuition designed to help you develop practical skills, confidence, and a deeper understanding of garment construction. Whether you are starting from zero or looking to strengthen your existing skills, I will guide you patiently through the creative and technical process, adapting the lessons to your interests and goals. The programme is designed as a flexible starting point. We will work through the essential techniques of sewing and garment construction before developing an area of particular interest to you. The programme includes: Sewing Fundamentals * Fabric components and garment terminology * How to thread and operate a sewing machine * Industrial sewing machinery and/or hand sewing * Basic stitches and seam construction * Seam finishes * Hems and finishing techniques Garment Construction * Faced necklines * Faced back openings * Bust and body construction * Shirt collars * Shirt sleeves * Sleeve plackets and cuffs * Basic skirts and waistbands * Zips * Different types of pockets * Construction of a garment of your choice Throughout the programme, you will build a personal technique folder using calico, documenting the different stitches, seams, finishes, and construction methods you learn. This will become a practical reference that you can return to whenever you need to refresh or develop your skills. You will learn widely used professional techniques, from French seams and bound finishes to pin hems, while gaining an understanding of how these techniques can be applied to your own designs. Starting from zero, you will gradually develop a strong foundation in sewing and garment construction, while being encouraged to experiment, ask questions, and develop your own creative direction. My aim is not only to teach you how to sew, but to give you the technical confidence to turn your ideas into garments.

I had such a great experience learning sewing and fashion design with Carla. She is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and supportive, and explains techniques in a way that makes them easy to understand.
