About Ben
I'm a strategy and finance professional with over a decade of experience across consulting, government, and private sector organisations in Australia and the UK. My career has involved complex problem solving, clear communication, and breaking down difficult concepts for a wide range of audiences - skills that translate directly into good teaching.
Alongside my professional career, I completed a Mathematics degree with the Open University. I am also half-Italian, lived in Italy for four years, and spent that time immersed in music study and performance, experiences that inform both my teaching and my understanding of language and culture in a way that goes well beyond the classroom.
I have been teaching students since I was 19, which means I bring over a decade of hands-on tutoring experience to every session. That breadth of experience, spanning different subjects, ages, backgrounds, and learning styles, has made me a genuinely flexible and adaptable teacher. I am not wedded to one approach. If the conventional explanation is not landing, I will find another way in, often from an unexpected angle, until something clicks.
I came to several of my own areas of expertise the long way round. Not through natural talent, but through curiosity and persistence. That background gives me real empathy for students who find a subject difficult, and a deep conviction that the right explanation at the right time can change everything.

Learning guitar should be fun. If you've always wanted to pick it up but never quite got started, or you had a go once and got stuck, this is the right place.
I've been playing guitar for many years across a wide range of styles, from classical technique and fingerpicking to acoustic songwriting and rock and electric. That breadth means I can tailor lessons to what actually excites you, rather than running everyone through the same exercises in the same order.
My approach with beginners especially is to get you playing things you recognise and enjoy as quickly as possible. Nothing kills motivation faster than spending weeks on dry technique before you've played a single song. We'll build good habits from the start, but we'll do it through music you actually want to play.
For improvers, I focus on filling in the gaps, whether that's music theory, technique, strumming patterns, fingerpicking, or just getting more confident and fluent.
Lessons are 30mins to an hour, in-person or via video call, and I teach complete beginners through to intermediate players.
