About Shannon
I graduated from Oxford University in 2017 gaining a BA in Psychology (2.1). I have been working as a freelance private tutor for four years alongside my studies. Having studied Psychology at both A-level and degree level, I am highly versed in the course requirements and 'handy hints' that will help improve grades. Mastering Psychology is often to do with knowing how to synthesise a vast amount of knowledge into a coherent argument; I work with my students with that in mind. At Oxford, I majored in Education and Psychology - exploring, amongst other things, the best way to teach students how to learn. I became a tutor because I believe that every student has the ability to succeed and through my work I aim to enable such students to fulfil their potential.

I pride myself on having a relaxed and open tutoring style, encouraging collaboration in learning as opposed to a dictatorship. I am of the belief that it is much more useful to teach students how to 'learn' than to focus on 'drilling in' examination content. Each session delivered is planned in advance according to an individual student's goals and needs to ensure maximal benefits; no two students are the same and hence my sessions aren't either. Whilst 'studying' can be tedious, I aim to make sessions unique and engaging whilst targeting key areas for improvement. Deep learning is encouraged with a thorough understanding of course content that lies beyond 'what a teacher has told you to learn'. My sessions therefore focus on not only rote memorisation of key content but also go beyond facts and figures to appreciate the underlying significance of each concept to be learned. Often, each session will focus on a particular topic (as decided by the student in question) which we will explore for the entire session using a variety of worked examples as appropriate. Repetition and learning to apply key concepts to a variety of contexts and question types is the key to success!
