About Megan
I am a recent Philosophy and Theology graduate from Oxford now reading a Masters in Religion and Global Politics at SOAS, University of London. Up until the outbreak of COVID, I was working in Madrid, Spain as an English teacher both in a private academy and in a state school but have now relocated to London. I have been tutoring and mentoring students both informally and formally for the past seven years in a number of subjects, including English (Literature/Language/EFL), Philosophy, RS, Oxbridge Prep, and Personal Statement Help. I also provide Spanish tuition for beginners up to GCSE level.

At its heart, my philosophy for teaching and tutorials is to try to encourage a love of learning amongst my students and in doing so, allow them to become increasingly interested and more confident in their subject area of focus. I try to take a disciplined yet non-militant approach to tutorials, often starting off with a preliminary session to establish what a client wishes to achieve from a given programme so that I can make a tailor-made course plan for each individual student.
No set of tutorials is alike, however, in general, I tend to start my sessions with each client by briefly reviewing what we focused on previously and addressing any concerns or questions that might have arisen in the intervening time. This initial part of each session is crucially important to my teaching style as I believe that constant reviewing of a concept once an individual has initially grasped it is essential to ensure that the knowledge is truly embedded. Next, I transition on to the more structured body of the class. This segment may either consist of going through a particular piece of work that the student has asked me to review or working through a set of exercises I have set for them. Finally, I always suggest some supplementary work to be completed by a student in between our meetings and together we concisely assess the student’s progress so that adjustments can be made throughout the course. I then leave plenty of time for questions at the end of each session. I actively like to encourage the asking of questions whether they be about a specific problem a student has encountered or more generally, about why we are studying the topic as I have found that the most successful students must work to cultivate an inquiring mind. It is my hope that I can encourage such a mind somewhat through my teaching.

Details
Both in-person and online lessons may be cancelled up to twenty-four hours in advance of the scheduled start time for a full refund. If a student cancels or does not turn up for a lesson after this twenty-four hour period expires, I will still require payment in full.
