About Miranda
As well as being a first-class History graduate and a law scholar, I'm also a fun and outgoing person who enjoys playing hockey and volunteering for a local charity to support refugees in my spare time.
As a recent graduate myself, I understand how important it is for learning to be engaging and stimulating. Thus, I aim to provide a friendly face to help you not just to excel in History, but to really enjoy the subject.
A big part of my ethos is to work as team, and find innovative new ways to tackle historical questions together. My sessions won't feel like long lectures but will instead be a series of interesting and thought-provoking activities interspersed with constructive feedback. There will also be plenty of time to ask questions about areas where you're a bit unsure.

Ad Hoc Workshops:
- These sessions are aimed at students who feel they have a relatively firm grasp of the curriculum, but are struggling to receive top marks due to problems with their essay technique.
- Students can send their essays to me in advance. I will then compile a list of realistic and specifically tailored tips to help them improve and explain each individual feedback point to them in detail.
- After this explanation, we will practice applying this advice by writing exemplar paragraphs and compiling a selection of essay plans.
- These sessions can be between one to three hours in length, depending on how much practice the student feels they need, and can be provided on a weekly or more ad-hoc basis.
Regular Content and Technique Sessions:
- These are hour long sessions provided on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for students who feel they are struggling to understand and remember the content they are being asked to learn and who are finding it difficult to produce high-scoring essays.
- The quantity of material students are asked to cover can often feel insurmountable, and so I will bring innovative revision techniques to their learning in order to help them discover the methods that work best for them.
- A large focus of these sessions will be on application: we will talk through historical problems together and then structure responses to essay questions and go through source analysis.
- In addition to content application, these sessions can also provide larger overviews to improve students' essay technique by using the highly effective structure of the 'essay workshop' detailed above.
My Experience and Qualifications
- I have tutored at KS2, KS3 and GCSE level in a range of subjects for the last five years.
- I graduated from the University of Durham in 2023 with a First Class degree History. I was awarded a mark of 90 in my dissertation on early modern trade routes and averaged a score of 80 across my degree.
- I am currently studying for a postgraduate diploma in law as one of the Inner Temple Inn of Court's four 'Major Scholars'.
- I achieved A*A*A*A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and History at A- Level. I was also awarded eight 9s, three A*s and one A at GCSE.
