About Ivy
I have worked in the field of education for several years. I have worked as a Substitute Teacher for an elementary school, worked as an Assistant Teacher at an elementary school, and now as a Reading Intervention Specialist Tutor/Teacher remotely for grades k-3rd. I learned that reading can be fun, expands your mind, and rewarding. I find joy when I see the growth in my students from the time they started school until the end of their first and second semester. I love to see my students ready to learn when they come to our tutoring session. I like to know how you are feeling before we begin. This is vital when setting the tone for each tutoring session. I like to be creative in tutoring to make sure that each student understood the lesson for the day. I may play a school appropriate game to quiz my students on what they have learned. This also helps me to see what I need to work more on with each student. My overall goal is for each one of my students to succeed in reading, writing and comprehension.

My teaching methods is to meet the student where they are in learning and their learning styles. Every students growth differs and I have to come up with ways that will engage the student as well as increase their growth in learning the concept of reading and writing.
My typical lesson plan as a Reading Intervention Specialists consists of teaching Letter Sounds, Phonemic Accuracy, how to sound out Regular and Irregular Words, give bi-weekly assessments to see where the student is in comprehension of they learned.
I believe that the foundation of reading starts at the level of k-3rd grade. If the students grasps the concept of reading knowledge, they will not struggle as they advance in their level of education.
That is why my main focus is on the grade levels of k-3rd.
