About Mr
Hi, I’m Chris!
I am a dedicated, highly experienced STEM educator specialising in Mathematics and Science, with 7 years of professional teaching experience. I am passionate about taking the stress out of STEM and helping students build genuine confidence in their abilities.
Developing Educational Excellence
My teaching career began in a highly teacher-development-centric secondary school. During my pedagogical studies and early classroom years, I made formative assessment my core focus. I am deeply passionate about the science of tracking student understanding in real-time to immediately identify and bridge knowledge gaps. I didn't just apply these theories to my own students; I actively helped develop and embed these progressive formative assessment practices across the wider school. This hands-on experience of shaping school-wide pedagogy ensures my tutoring is built on rigorous, evidence-based tracking rather than guesswork.
My Journey to Independent Tutoring
Wanting to make a more direct, personalised impact, I transitioned to working independently as a tutor while also teaching across multiple different schools. Moving between diverse educational environments has given me an incredibly broad perspective on the specific hurdles students face and the best strategies to overcome them.
Today, I am a highly reviewed and heavily praised tutor. I am incredibly proud of the track record I have built, helping countless students break through their learning barriers and boost their grades. My educational reach also extends globally; I regularly teach dedicated online mathematics and science classes to international students every Saturday morning, which has highly refined my ability to deliver engaging, resource-rich lessons across a screen.
Beyond the Classroom
I believe the best educators can connect with their students on multiple levels. Outside of tutoring, I am a dedicated storyteller and creator. You can often find me running tabletop campaigns as a Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master on my YouTube channel, exploring the cutting edge of generative AI video tools, or getting out into nature with my large-format film camera.
I find that my love for gaming, technology, and creative storytelling naturally bleeds into my teaching. It allows me to build a strong rapport with my students, present complex scientific and mathematical concepts in highly creative ways, and make our lessons a genuinely engaging part of the week.

A Science-Informed Approach to Learning
Every student is unique, but the underlying mechanics of how we acquire, process, and retain knowledge are universal. With 7 years of classroom and tutoring experience, my teaching methodology doesn't rely on guesswork. It is deeply rooted in the science of learning, combining foundational educational psychology with the latest cognitive research to ensure every lesson is optimised for success.
My Teaching Methodology
My lessons are explicitly designed around how the brain works, utilising a blend of established theory and modern evidence-based practices:
Cognitive Development (Piaget): Drawing on Jean Piaget’s theories of cognitive development, I carefully scaffold my lessons to match the student's current developmental stage. Especially in STEM, the transition from concrete, tangible ideas to complex, abstract reasoning can be challenging. I focus on building and connecting "schemas" (mental models), ensuring that new mathematical and scientific concepts genuinely make sense, rather than just being memorised.
Direct Instruction: I utilise the highly structured, unambiguous teaching models developed by Siegfried Engelmann to introduce new material. By breaking down complex topics into clear, logical, and masterable micro-steps, we eliminate confusion and accelerate understanding.
Applied Cognitive Science (Wider Research): I actively integrate modern research into my practice. We carefully manage Cognitive Load to ensure the student's working memory is never overwhelmed. I also embed Retrieval Practice and Spaced Repetition into our sessions to successfully transfer knowledge from short-term memory into robust, long-term retention—vital for GCSE exam success.
Formative Assessment & Active Tracking: Learning is a dynamic process. I continuously check for understanding throughout the lesson, adapting my delivery and pacing in real-time. This active tracking allows us to pinpoint exact barriers to learning and overcome them instantly.
What a Typical Session Looks Like
Active Recall: We begin by retrieving previous knowledge to strengthen neural pathways and warm up the brain.
Targeted Instruction: Clear, step-by-step introduction of new material, carefully aligned with the student's cognitive readiness.
Guided Practice: Working through problems collaboratively, using interactive technology to visualise concepts.
Independent Application: The student applies the knowledge independently while I monitor progress and provide immediate, constructive feedback.
Who These Lessons Are For
Levels: Primary through to GCSE.
Subjects: Mathematics and Science.
Needs: My highly adaptive, research-backed approach is incredibly effective for a wide spectrum of student needs. Whether navigating specific learning barriers, building fundamental confidence, or pushing for top-tier grades, the instruction is tailored to you.
The Online Experience
Online tutoring should be seamless and engaging. I leverage the latest educational technology and active tracking tools to create a highly focused, interactive, and resource-rich environment that often exceeds the traditional in-person experience.
