About Ruth
I moved from a career in the defence industry into teaching in my early 40s and have discovered a real passion and drive for helping every young person to thrive. I have received excellent feedback from my students and regularly get nominated for best teacher. I am currently also a specialist pastoral lead in a 16-19 FE college and help students with revision skills and finding motivation and drive to be their best self.
Outside of teaching I enjoy keeping fit, travelling, films, and being out in the countryside with my family and dogs.

Looking to get ahead in the transition from GCSE to A-level? Consolidate your learning of your A-level course so far?
I have taught both OCR (A) and AQA A-Level Physics and Edexcel A-Level Maths, as well as tutoring GCSE Maths and Science.
I can travel to you for 1 hour sessions within the Basingstoke or Farnborough area, or online.
I will always focus on building relationships with my students and understanding where they're currently at, then working from there. I'm a keen advocate of the neuroscience of learning and work explicitly on building memory and consolidating previous learning. My lessons are always fun and engaging and hands-on where possible, especially with getting that real feel for physics.
My tutoring sessions are based very much on questions and working on mini whiteboards to draw diagrams and model worked examples. I can guarantee you will have to think :).
Once students have built their mental model of the concepts it's then looking at the detail of what examiners are looking for to maximise marks.
I have experience working with neurodivergent students and EBSA (emotional based school avoidance). I am happy to provide whatever accommodations are necessary to build trust and help students feel comfortable and motivated.
I can also support with general study skills and exam preparation.
