  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak both French and Italian fluently due to my unique linguistic background. While I was born in Italy, my exposure to a francophone elementary school and subsequent studies in Belgium enriched my language skills in both French and Italian. These diverse experiences, combined with my dedication to language learning, have contributed to my fluency in both languages.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

An emblematic representative of French culture could be figures like Victor Hugo or Jean-Paul Sartre, who have made significant contributions to French literature and philosophy. In Italian culture, Leonardo da Vinci or Dante Alighieri might be considered emblematic figures due to their profound impact on Italian art and literature.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

In French, the tradition of "apéro" (a pre-dinner drink and socialising) is a delightful tradition that encourages relaxed social interactions. In Italian, the phrase "La dolce vita" embodies the love of life's pleasures and the appreciation of beauty, which is a sentiment that many find appealing.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Speaking both French and Italian fluently holds great significance for me. It serves as a bridge to connect with diverse people and cultures, fostering cross-cultural understanding and communication. Furthermore, my extensive educational background in modern languages reinforces the value of these linguistic skills, not just as a means of expression but as a pathway to explore the rich tapestries of French and Italian cultures.
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty in learning these languages can vary for different individuals, but common challenges include mastering complex grammar rules, pronunciation, and idiomatic expressions. Immersion, consistent practice, and formal education, as you've experienced, can greatly aid the language-learning process.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of the most cherished memories from my school days is the linguistic exchanges I participated in. These exchanges brought together students from diverse linguistic backgrounds, creating a vibrant and enriching environment.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling to francophone and Italian-speaking regions has significantly enriched my language skills and cultural understanding. These journeys allowed me to immerse myself in real-life language usage and connect with native speakers. Through these experiences, I gained practical insights into regional variations and cultural nuances, which have enhanced my ability to teach and appreciate the languages on a deeper level.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof in language is my extensive educational background, including a BA, MA, and PhD in modern languages, as well as my experience teaching in secondary schools and universities in the UK, Ireland, and Italy. My dedication to teaching and in-depth knowledge of French and Italian cultures and languages contribute to my expertise in this field.
