About Gemma
I have the best job - I draw on two decades of teaching experience to help children reach their goals every week!
I began teaching in 2003, when I spent two and a half years in Seoul, South Korea, teaching English as a foreign language after graduating with a BSc in Zoology from Bangor University in Wales.
In 2008, I graduated from London South Bank University with a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education – Primary (PGCE) with a specialism in Equality, Inclusion and Citizenship and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
In 2018, after several years as a class teacher in SE London, I took the plunge and became a full-time tutor.
The best part of my job is seeing that moment when kids suddenly 'get' something they were struggling with!

I work with 7-11-year-olds to support or stretch their learning in maths and English through tailored, accessible, multi-sensory learning activities. Additionally, I specialise in preparing children for 11-plus entrance exams, including verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
My teaching style is flexible, warm, encouraging and engaging. I work with children at their pace, building their confidence so that they feel safe to attempt tasks that are outside their comfort zone.
Lessons are 45 mins or 1 hour long and I offer options for online and in-person tuition. In-person sessions are held in my garden cabin classroom.
