About Amy
I am an energetic, kind and engaging teacher in the classroom environment, that tries to bring the fun to every lesson taught. I think it is important to use a variety of resources to help you through your learning journey. My students feel encouraged to have a go and to not be put off by making mistakes - it is all part of getting where you want to be! Teaching tricky concepts does not have to only be taught by doing exam papers every session, and I will encourage you to use visuals, manipulatives and stories.

I have qualified teacher status (QTS) and currently teach the entire national curriculum, to a mixed Year 5 & 6 cohort, as well as leading a Year 6 Revision Club. My sessions are tailored towards pupils with SEN (special educational needs), as well as pupils that struggle with the pressure of timed exam conditions. My tried and tested approach in supporting children in-and-out of the classroom is primarily based on using relatable concepts that pupils are familiar with, in order to increase their confidence and ability to solve problems in exam conditions. I believe in providing positive and engaging learning experiences - and in fostering a safe space for pupils to make necessary mistakes - in order to lead the path to progress and results. In my experience, the most successful length of sessions for primary-aged pupils are no longer than 1 hour (e.g. in maintaining concentration and interest). This allows for a warm-up activity, pre-assessment, teaching, independent practice, marking, plenary and feedback.
