About Jake

Hi, I'm Jake, a qualified NSW primary teacher with a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) (Honors) and around six years of classroom experience in NSW primary schools.

I now run my own small online tutoring practice, working one-to-one with mainstream and homeschooled students across Australia in English and math. I hold public liability insurance for my tutoring work.

I believe the best progress comes from a genuine one-to-one relationship. I take time to understand how each child learns, build their confidence, and make reading, spelling and writing engaging rather than a chore.

If your child needs to catch up, build confidence or be extended, I'd love to help.

About the lesson

I offer one-to-one online English lessons for primary students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and beyond, for both mainstream and homeschooled families across Australia.

Areas I cover:
- Phonics: building strong foundational sound and letter skills first
- Spelling: teaching spelling rules alongside word patterns and memorisation strategies
- Reading and language skills
- Writing: structured, step-by-step support using the Seven Steps writing program, with mind maps and creative brainstorming to get ideas flowing

My approach:
- Clear, incremental steps so students build confidence as they go
- Mistakes are reviewed together, and we move on only when your child is ready
- Motivation strategies and short brain breaks to keep younger learners engaged
- Home practice support: straight after each lesson, parents receive a short list of the words their child found tricky

Lessons run online over Zoom and use interactive tools such as Phonics Hero and IXL, so practice can continue between sessions.
