About Ailsa
I am a qualified secondary music teacher (QTS, PGDE) with a BA in Music from the University of Cambridge and a Masters from University College London. I am currently completing a PhD in music education at Northumbria University.
I have two years of classroom teaching experience at a secondary school in the North East of England, where I taught music at KS3 & KS4 and ran after school music theory club. I also have two years experience tutoring A-Level music and mentoring students through Oxbridge and university applications, including personal statement writing and interview preparation.
Outside the classroom I am an active brass performer - I bring genuine enthusiasm for music and a belief that every student can make progress with the right support.

I offer one-to-one online tutoring in Music (GCSE, A-Level, & music theory), and support for students applying to Oxford, Cambridge, or other competitive universities — including personal statement writing, interview preparation, and subject knowledge development.
Sessions are tailored to each student's specific goals, whether that is improving grades, preparing for a music exam, developing broader musicianship, or navigating a university application. I take a patient, structured, and encouraging approach, and adapt my style to suit different learning needs and working styles.
I am happy to work from a student's own notes and materials, or to provide structured resources where helpful.
