About Maria
As a soon-to-be History graduate from the University of Leeds, I combine academic expertise with a passion for making history engaging, relevant, and accessible to all learners. Having recently returned from a year abroad in Spain, I bring a global perspective to my teaching, whether discussing European, world, or specialised historical topics. My experience mentoring peers and tutoring students has honed my ability to break down complex ideas, strengthen critical analysis, and boost exam performance—all while keeping lessons dynamic and interactive. I believe history should be engaging, accessible, and thought-provoking, not just memorisation. My lessons are: Discussion-based: I encourage critical thinking by linking historical events to broader themes and modern parallels. Structured yet flexible: I tailor lessons to each student’s needs, whether exam prep (essay skills, source analysis) or general interest. Resource-rich: I use primary sources, videos, and concise notes to reinforce understanding. Active learning: Instead of passive lecturing, I use quizzes, debates, and mini-projects to solidify knowledge. Lesson Length Standard sessions: 1 hour (ideal for focused learning). Extended sessions: 1.5–2 hours (for exam practice or deep dives into complex topics). Shorter sessions (30–45 mins) are available for younger students or quick revision. Qualifications & Experience Soon-to-be History graduate (University of Leeds) with in-depth knowledge across periods. Study abroad experience (Spain), enhancing my ability to teach diverse historical perspectives. Previous tutoring experience (informal and peer mentoring), helping students improve grades and confidence. Who Are My Lessons For? Levels: GCSE, A-Level, university students, or adult learners. Maria was a very person-centred tutor. She planned our sessions around my learning needs which made it a lot easier to follow along. I sometimes struggle to understand everything fully at school so being able to sit down one on one with Maria really helped me. She tutored me for GCSE's in Edexcel History and AQA Spanish.
