About Heather
I am a practicing food science university lecturer and qualified secondary food and nutrition teacher with 13 years experience in the food industry. I am passionate about everyone, from children to adults having the tools they need to navigate cooking and eating in a safe, healthy and balanced way. I have a degree in food and nutrition (2:1 2016) and a PGCE in food technology, gained in 2017 from Sheffield Hallam University. I am currently studying for a PgCert in HE teaching too. I also hold an NVQ level 2 in professional cookery, GCSE in food technology and have 2 years industrial food experience and 5 years in food retail. I also hold the standard level 2 in food safety and hygiene and I am fully DBS checked, so you know you/ your friend/ your family member/ your child will be in safe hands.

I am passionate about all walks of life being able to access food in a safe and approachable manner. My specialism is in lessons for 5-18 year olds, SEN pupils and those who need their confidence building around food at all ages. I approach my lessons in a friendly way, building from basic skills and safety techniques to build confidence at all levels. My lessons draw upon my experiences within the food industry to explain the science, safety and nutritional aspects of food- whether this is in a practical session or in a theory lesson. The lessons will be tailored around your food needs- whether this is to learn how to use a knife correctly or how to apply the science of bread making to a loaf, I will help you to develop your knowledge and expand your culinary scope.
