About Amy
I am qualified and experienced in teaching: Chemistry to Key Stage 3, GCSE, IGCSE and A Level Physics to Key Stage 3 and GCSE Biology to Key Stage 3 My first degree is a Master of Chemistry with Industrial Experience (MSci First Class Honours). I achieved this at the University of Birmingham in 2020 and during this time completed my industrial year as an Applications Chemist at a well-known specialty chemicals company. I then achieved my Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the University of Birmingham in 2021 and have worked at UK leading grammar and independent schools, before transitioned into a Research and Development Chemist role. I thoroughly enjoy motivating my students and my passion is teaching students of all abilities. My students tell me I help them to enjoy learning and to break down complex information into more manageable sections. As well as preparing students for examinations I try to inspire them to apply their knowledge beyond the focus of exams. I strongly believe that learning should be enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

My teaching methodology is based on my student's needs wherein I assess my student's needs and abilities so as to devise a customised study plan for them. Science is everywhere. I like to prove this to students by giving them questions in a real-life context; I focus a lot on teaching from practice as students often need examples and problems to visualise content. I also teach students to be resilient and work through questions logically, developing their problem-solving skills. Through my teaching method I spend time looking for extra resources to help students. I also read into the syllabus and the requirements of the subject to make sure I am helping and teaching them exactly what they need. I am a fully qualified Chemistry teacher and a friendly, compassionate tutor with a passion for Science. I enjoy helping students increase their confidence in the subject, using a variety of teaching strategies. I understand how daunting it can be for parents and students to begin tuition so I am more than happy for parents to stay during my lessons, and can also provide references and an enhanced DBS check. I am happy to set homework, mark examination papers and give detailed feedback, as well as organise additional lessons during examination periods.

Amy is a trustworthy tutor as she's patient and takes time to thoroughly go through things, no matter how many times. She's kind and approachable and not judgemental if you are unable to do something. Her organisation gave me confidence because I knew that there was chance for me to improve with Amy. She's also helpful outside the tutoring sessions as she set up a Google classroom with me and uploaded any material that could help, customised to my understanding.
