About Trudie

I always aim to deliver education that is suited to the needs of the learner and want to make learning a fun and memorable experience.

I have experience organising a student council. As part of this I had to select a group of children from different ages across the school and organises dates to meet and discuss. Through these discussions the pupil voice focused on how the school could be improved. I also organised for the children in the school council to visit other schools and their school councils.

I have experience as an Art & DT subject leader. As part of this responsibility I had to keep on top of organising and ordering resources as well as keeping a document of this and collaborating with staff to make sure that they had suitable resources. I regularly discussed with teachers what they needed to cover to ensure they were meeting the curriculum and that progression was on going throughout the school. This also involved me observing other teachers and creating documentation to support the teachers in their planning.

I gained my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) which provided me with a real life, hands-on experience of Teaching. During my training I observed and worked with a variety of age ranges. During my placements I taught majority in Year 1 and Year 5, which was a fantastic opportunity to witness the progression and expectations of children throughout primary education.

I have experience of teaching in a variety of primary institutions and working with different age ranges. My most recent role was as a Year 2 Teacher in an ‘Outstanding’ primary school. I was responsible for creating my own timetables, planning all my lessons and identifying suitable ways to assess my pupils. In addition to this, I strived to deliver creative lessons that were engaging but also ensued the children in my class were challenged regardless of their ability.

When planning I recognise the need to consider the needs and abilities of each child. I have experience of adapting my planning to make it accessible to all, particularly to those with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). For instance, I have found hat some children benefit from enlarged copies of texts and others need pictorial support to guide them in the completion of their work. Generally, I believe the best way to make learning accessible is to capture the interests of the learners.

When teaching I have clear boundaries and expectations and take a firm but fair approach. I like for children to feel comfortable and confident in the environment and aim to foster a growth mindset approach. I believe this approach is imperative in the future in order to create learners that are keen and enjoy learning in a curriculum that is constantly changing and becoming more demanding.
