About Lou
I am a qualified Art & Design teacher, practising artist, and creative practitioner who is passionate about helping students find confidence and individuality in their creative work. I believe art is not just about producing a final piece — it is about exploring ideas, experimenting with materials, and developing the ability to communicate visually.
I currently teach KS3–KS5 and have experience supporting both mainstream and SEND learners. My teaching approach is adaptive and personalised, using strategies such as modelling, scaffolding, demonstrations, and targeted feedback to help students overcome creative barriers and make meaningful progress.
Alongside teaching, I work as a freelance artist and photographer, giving me a strong understanding of the creative process from initial ideas through to final outcomes. My practice explores visual storytelling, expressive mark making, composition, experimentation, and the relationship between materials and emotions. I encourage students to become confident creators who are not afraid to explore, make mistakes, and develop their own artistic voice.
I hold a BA in Art History and an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies, with experience in curation, exhibitions, research, and working within creative environments. This allows me to support students with practical skills, critical thinking, artist research, sketchbook development, coursework, exam preparation, and portfolio building.
My aim is to create a supportive and inspiring space where students feel encouraged to experiment, challenge themselves, and realise their creative potential.

My tutoring approach is adaptive, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of each student. I recognise that every learner works differently, so I use a range of strategies to support progress, including modelling, scaffolding, visual aids, retrieval practice, step-by-step demonstrations, and targeted questioning. I regularly adapt lessons based on a student's strengths, areas for development, and preferred learning style to ensure they feel confident and engaged.
Lessons focus on building technical skills, creativity, critical thinking, and exam confidence. Whether a student needs support with coursework, portfolio development, artist analysis, or practical techniques, I provide clear guidance and constructive feedback to help them achieve their goals.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although extended sessions can be arranged for portfolio preparation and exam support.
I am a qualified Art & Design teacher teaching KS3–KS5, with experience supporting both mainstream and SEND learners. I hold a BA in Art History and an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies, alongside professional experience in education, curation, and the creative industries.
Lessons are suitable for students aged 11–18, including KS3, GCSE, and A-Level learners, as well as those preparing portfolios for further education, university applications, or creative careers.
